These website owners make money by placing these advertisements on the page, It is a good side-business. GoogleAds is famous among bloggers to make side income writing blogs and placing advertisements in blogs. There are many people making money only writing blogs.

In terms of social media, there is a slight difference — Advertisements are targeted. As per your data, They take your gender details, Age details, etc. whatever they have, and show related ads on your page. They always have some space for advertisements shows ads there using different analytics and your behavior patterns.

Let’s take the case of Instagram. While swiping stories, There are Ads in-between. If they find you are using Spotify and they have a pattern of listening hip-hop while exploring Instagram, You can see ads of Spotify playlist suggestions, Artist suggestions as advertisements.
There will be many times your jaw have dropped when you viewed a video on youtube and later Instagram, then you saw an AD with related to the same video you watched before. These guys are sharing information and tracking you.

You may now know you are addicted. How do you feel like quitting social media for a day? That feeling just came into your mind is a consequence of addiction. But I have seen people strong enough or busy enough or fed up with social media. But it’s the other 80% of people in social media.

Have you ever seen people checking their phones regularly in the dining table? When you are talking to a person? When they are standing in the crowd? In bus? They will be spending their free time. But using social media even you are engaged in other activities is simply because of addiction.

There is analytics in social media where you will be shown what you like to see. On Instagram, there is one option to explore along with search. Whatever content is shown over there will have a pattern that matches your previous searches and pages or posts you visited — The content you like to see. Same on youtube default page and suggestions. Which makes you watch youtube or Instagram or TikTok videos for more time. Meanwhile, they can display more of their advertisements and make money. It’s not your fault you are addicted to social media. You have to accept the fact they are using and controlling your mind.
